Are you a trainee or newly qualified psychotherapist, psychologist or counsellor looking to take the first steps in setting up a private practice?

Here are some practical, foundational steps for success:

1. Do your Financial Planning: Establish a clear budget to understand start-up costs, including office space, marketing, and supplies. It takes time to gain a full caseload and there will be times initially especially in holiday periods when people won’t attend.

2. Location: Choose a conducive environment that feels safe and welcoming for clients. It has taken years for me to get this right, don’t sign a lease for too long in case there are unforeseen issues. (Contact me if you are looking for a beautiful room in Melton!)

3. Marketing Strategy: Develop a solid marketing plan to attract clients, decide in advance how you will establish a professional online presence, take your time over this especially over any decisions about personal disclosure.

4. Professional Development: Invest in continuous education and training to enhance your skills and stay updated in the field.

5. Networking: Build relationships with other professionals for referrals and support. I’ve created a referral scheme and provide clients to other therapists with or without supervision. (DM me if you want to know more about this or would like to work as a paid trainee or newly qualified therapist in my clinic).

By integrating these steps, you can create a thriving practice. Good luck!
